Here's the latest on Yankees' Bryan Mitchell after line-drive horror
A few hours after they watched starting pitcher Bryan Mitchell head to the hospital with a bloody face after taking a vicious line drive off the face, the Yankees were relieved to see the rookie pitcher was back in the locker room Monday night after an 8-7 victory over the Minnesota Twins.
The Yankees announced Mitchell has only a small nasal fracture after he was hit by a ball off the bat of ex-Yankee Eduardo Nunez in the second inning.
The Yankees have Mitchell under observation for a possible concussion.
Even Twins manager Paul Molitor, a Hall of Famer, was shaken by the play.
The Yankees will monitor him for the possibility of concussion symptoms.
"I get goosebumps talking about it," Molitor said. "You're playing the game, and then you see someone go through something like that."
"I know they've talked about trying to find that protective cap for pitchers. They haven't come up with anything that looks very practical as of yet. The face is pretty much something that's going to be unprotected, no matter what you do," he said.
