The Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien did not confirm who will start at quarterback positions when his squad hosts the San Francisco 49ers in the 2015 NFL preseason. Both Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett are competing for the role and coach O’Brien has said that the Hoyer and Mallett are pretty equal as they enter the first preseason game this year. Both quarterbacks spent time with coach O’Brien when he was an assistant coach during his time in the New England Patriots when the two were backup QBs to superstar Tom Brady. That said, they are very much familiar with O’Brien system.
The Houston Texans will also be getting a pretty good look at second-year rookie running back Alfred Blue, who will likely secure a starting job while Arian Foster is out of the field as he’s still recovering from a groin surgery. Houston will also allow their players to compete for running back Arian Foster’s replacement. Alfred Blue is next on the depth chart, but we expect to see a more of John Grimes and Kenny Hilliard in action.
The focus for the San Francisco 49ers will be their defense side, where linebacker NaVorro Bowman could play his first game since he recovered from an injury on his left knee that he sustained during the the NFC title game back in January 2014. The San Francisco 49ers kicks off their rebuilding project at NRG Stadium Saturday night against the Houston Texans. San Francisco 49ers is looking to fill their holes after some of the team star players departed such as Frank Gore, Patrick Willis and Justin Smith.
